Based on the SRG's understanding of the Ford Motor Company (FoMoCo) ordering, serialization, scheduling, and assembly process, 'serialization' is the date the car's computer record was created. Creation of the car's Ford Computer Record (FCR) was the moment that the car's sequence number was assigned. Equipped with this understanding, a car's Serialized date should not occur after the car's Scheduled production date. Nor should the car's Serialized date be equal to the car's actual assembly (build) date -- unless something was altered, post-assignment. This query's dataset includes records that meet these conditions (Serialized date >= Scheduled date or Serialized date >= Actual Build date). It is possible that these anomalies are related to, or a result of, rescheduled assembly dates and/or substitutions that were a result of the GT 500 (428-8V SI) Thermactor Engine launch delay issue(s). The record anomaly likely indicates that the car's computer record was updated or replaced; most information was carried forward, however, a new serialized date was applied when the record was updated/replaced. All anomalies discovered so far with DSO-ordered units are
limited to cars with Parchment (5U) trim and span three (3)
consecutively numbered DSOs. Observations
Car #0176 was not ordered by DSO, and also exhibits an anomaly. The car's order was received on 7/22/66; serialized on 9/1/66; scheduled for 9/2/66; actually built on 9/1/66, and released on 9/24/66. So this car's record may have also been updated 'as-built.' We're also looking into date anomalies for records where the
Released date is before the Completed date. Stay tuned... See Also |
