Cars With Under-Hood Shielding

When Shelby transitioned from the steel framed hoods to the all-fiberglass hoods, a new problem was introduced... Electro-magnetic interference (EMI) caused by the running engine that interfered with the radio reception.

One method of remediation was to adhere a metal foil or copper screen mesh to the underside of the hood.

The other approach to solving the problem was to install (or relocate) the radio antenna to the rear of the car. Some might agree that a rear antenna offered better aesthetics too.
The overwhelming majority of these records were contributed by car owners without providing photographs.

Reviewing The Data

We see an identifiable trend beginning around the middle of March 1967. This is additional evidence that helps us timeline when the all-fiberglass hoods were phased in.
