Z-VIN Transition Period

  view data

The SRG's observation remains consistent on the pattern that cars completed by Shelby American on or after April 27, 1967, received the 'Z' prefix added to their Shelby VIN plates.

Besides the completion date, could the Z prefix be tied to one of the other key Shelby dates, such as the invoiced or shipped date? This query returns all the completed, invoiced, or shipped between 4/27/1967 and 5/2/1967 and is updated in real-time from our central database.

Different sorting methods are offered so that you can try to help us find the patterns and refine our theory.

In order for us to continue to test theories and find patterns, we need to gather more invoice dates of the cars that fall into the scope of this transition period.

Shelby's transition to Z-VINs appears to take place right around the same time as Ford's transition from Ordering District (OD) 84 to 89 on the SVOs.

Reviewing The Data

Cars with missing and/or reproduction Shelby VIN tags have been excluded from this query.

If there's not a "Y" in the "V.Pic?" column for a car, it indicates the SRG does not have a photograph of the VIN plate, and without one, we are unable to verify the information that was reported by another source.

04/27/1967 Earliest Production Order 'Completed' Date
04/28/1967 Earliest SAI 'Invoiced' date
05/02/1967 Earliest 'Shipped' Date
