Consignment is a specific and interesting term, especially when
it was used by Shelby American. Why would Shelby American
'consign' cars to dealers, rather than sell them?
Part of Shelby's 'sweetheart' deal with Ford Motor Company
was that SAI wasn't required to pay FoMoCo for the car until it
was 'sold.' A consignment was technically not a sale. Hmmm, no
'shenanigans here...' Reviewing The Data Most consignments were early-production cars that were dispatched to Shelby-franchised dealers. We also expect to find many of the 'consigned' cars are also categorized as 'showing' cars. More than half of the consignment cars we've identified so far were painted black. According to the SAAC Registry, cars #0104 and #0221 were listed as being 'Consigned to the Ford Seattle District.' We haven't verified that this is actually what is scribed on the cars' Production Orders. Car #2370 is listed as 'Consigned to World on Wheels.' The
second year of this show took place at the Hollywood Palladium
in Los Angeles, CA, on September 21-24, 1967. It was billed as
"the world's most complete personal transportation show" and the
opening night gala was to benefit Cerebral Palsy. Car #2370 was
the grand prize raffled off at the opening night gala. See Also |
