Timeline Earliest cars - overheating (#0100, #0131, #0139) canceled DSOs - all GT500 AirCon. Priority #1 - overheating issue (Jan 67 confidential memo) AC Cooling test car #0463 Problem solved, but all DSOs for GT 500 air-conditioned cars that were held-up were canceled. Half the quantity was reordered Official tests at Goodyear high-speed test track. Two different compressors (cast iron and aluminum bodied)
Facts Only GT 500 air-conditioned cars were factory-equipped with a louvered hood an oil cooler. The Oil Cooler was an extra line-item charge when the car was invoiced to the dealer. No air-conditioned cars were manufactured with Parchment (5U) trim. No air-conditioned cars were sold through Canadian dealers. With the exception of the first three (3) GT 500 Company Cars (#0100, #0131, #0139) which served public relations and/or engineering roles, all 'retail' GT 500 cars with air-conditioning were completed late enough to have been equipped with the 'outboard' style grille and high beams. On the Daily Production Reports (DPRs), Shelby referred to the outboard highbeams as "AirCon Front End".
