The Ford door tags were supposed to be removed by Shelby American. As we say time and time again, to err is human. Sometimes the door tags were mistakenly left riveted to the driver's door of the cars when they were shipped out to dealers from Shelby American's LAX facility. Luckily, we've learned a couple of very important details from the tags mistakenly left on the doors:
Reviewing The Data Column header acronyms: Pkg = Package Code, P=Paint, T=Trim, OD = Ordering District, FCR = Ford Computer Record, SVO = Special Vehicle Order and Parts Specification (engineering add/delete sheets found in cars), PO {U/R} = Circled Date in Upper-Right of Production Order, DPR = Daily Production Report Date. The "OD: Tag" column will show an Ordering District code of "84" or "89" if we have a photograph of the tag. The "OD: Tag" column indicates a "Y" if it has been reported to us as 'still present.' (no photo for verification - may have been mentioned by an owner or published elsewhere). The transition from 84 -> 89 likely correlates to the large "Z" prefix getting added to the VIN plate by Shelby American (cars completed on or after 4/27/1967). It remains the SRG's theory that the running change to the FoMoCo Ordering District and the Shelby American Z-VIN may be related and both may be indicators of FoMoCo's takeover of Shelby American, Inc.
