We've discovered production orders that have a circled X-code
to the left of the dealer's name. These X-codes have been found
on cars sold later in production, starting in April 1967.
All GT sales to non-Shelby-franchised dealers were sold through the Ford Home Office, and a corresponding (X99) code appears to the left of the NSF dealer's name on the car's Production Order. We are farily certain that X99 is the code assigned to Ford Motor Company. Why X99? 'X' seems to be the alpha assigned to special
purposes, and if there were 98 Shelby-franchised dealers, then
99 would be next increment. Also, Ford's code for Shelby
American was 'X999'. See Also |
